Farmhousefamilylife Gallery Wall

Hi lovelies!  Yesterday I was supposed to work on school planning for our homeschool (which we’re supposed to begin again next week), so naturally I decided to rearrange the entire living room instead.

I moved a large bookcase to a new wall, which left an open wall above where I placed the couch.  It would be so easy to place a large painting in the space, but who likes easy?  I decided to make a gallery wall there instead.

For those of you who have always wanted to do a gallery wall but haven’t, go for it!  It’s actually not difficult.  I’ll walk you through my process.

Gallery Wall DIY

1. Pick a wall.  Here’s my wall before I began. (That’s Dozer sleeping- go figure.)

2. Get a hammer and nails (if you’re using a very heavy item, be sure to use a screw in a stud.  If it’s your first time, just use lighter items to start with.)

3. Find the items you want to hang.  Make sure you have varying sizes if you’re not doing a checker-box pattern.  Use things you love.  The sewing hoops I hung up belonged to my great-grandmother, and I’ve used them throughout the years in various ways.

4. Group the largest items on the wall and play around until you like the general layout.  I usually ask my kids to hold things up on the wall before I put nails in (is that child labor?), but you can also use painter’s tape or cut out paper and stick on the wall if necessary.  If all else fails, put the darn nails in the wall, and fill the holes in later!

5. Add the details.  For me, this is the fun part!  I like to glue gun or wire on plants or find unusual knick-knacks to hang in the in-between spaces. Farmhouse style signs are always a great idea. Be creative and have fun!

There you have it!  Easy-peasy!  Enjoy your gallery wall!
