Kitchen Island Design Ideas

A kitchen island is often the focal point of the room.  It offers a space to gather around for conversations, meal prep, and morning cups of coffee. A kitchen island can also offer extra storage space or shelving for cookbooks.

Since the kitchen is often the heart of the home, I’ve gathered some of my favorite kitchen islands to give you ideas to use for your own home!

Blue Copper Design kitchen island

01 | Tile Accent Island

I love the tile accent on this island by Blue Copper Design! Combined with the blue, it adds a layer of dimension to an otherwise neutral kitchen and visually draws you to the island.

02 | White and Well-Trimmed Kitchen Island

This kitchen island from Erin Vogelpohl of My Texas House is one of my favorites, because the visual draw is in the trim work instead of color. The large, white island fits with the overall white theme of her home, but it holds its own design-wise by the well-appointed use of molding and trim.

03 | Two-Tiered Island

I love this two-tiered island for so many reasons! There’s the practical workspace on the lower level. The lower tier also includes an under-counter microwave. I love that the upper, L-shaped level provides comfortable seating space for three people but is elevated to keep those seated eye level with anyone who may be standing while using the lower workspace. And the uncommon design adds so much personality to this kitchen! This is fantastic work by Grey Hunt Interiors!

04 | Kitchen Island with Shelving

This island by Velinda Hellen Design boasts shelves providing ample storage space for dry goods, cookbooks or cooking gadgets. It is both practical and gorgeous!

05 | Contrasting Black & White Island

I love the elegance of the black and white contrast of this kitchen island by Charlie Interior Design! And it’s as functional as it is beautiful, with shelving on one end and a seating spot on the other.
